Louis F. Wolf, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
The Louis F. Wolf Jr. Memorial Scholarship is designed to help students further their undergraduate or graduate studies in motion pictures and television, with an emphasis on technology.
Nicholas Hurley is a rising-sophomore Electrical Engineering and Physics student at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Since September of 2019, he has worked as a Workshop Coordinator for the Acoustical Society of America, coordinating instructional audio engineering workshops from conception to execution for dozens of eager students, presenting monthly lessons allowing students to assemble audio-based projects in real time and providing educational outreach to Boston Public School children. For his final freshman engineering project, he recreated the Nipkow Disc, an early 20th century electro-mechanical television design. He further augmented the design with video-graphics engine and falling-bottle game implementation. Hurley has received the Lawrence Award (May 2020) from Northeastern University for outstanding performance in Physics, and the Kevin C. Kynoch Memorial Award (May 2019) for exceptional contributions to the fine arts program at Boston College High School. He is a National Merit Scholar and enjoys writing and performing original music as the guitarist for the Battle of the Bands winning rock band, Jury Duty.
