The Citation for Outstanding Service to the Society recognizes individuals for dedicated service to the Society over a sustained period of time. Particular emphasis is to be placed on service performed at the Section level, including, but not limited to, services performed at Section meetings, special Section meetings, and national conferences.
The 2020 Citation for Outstanding Service to the Society is awarded to Bob Hudelson, in recognition of his long-standing dedication to SMPTE, the industry, and the local community. For the past 17 years, Hudelson has been active in the leadership of the Sacramento Section, serving as Chair, Past Chair, Manager, and Western Region Governor. Distinguished not only by his commitment to the Society but also his mentorship and education of others, he has worked with Section Managers and Chairs to ensure continuity and strength within the Section. His other contributions to the Section and local community include an initiative to record and stream Section meetings and to develop a number of internship programs for students, exposing them to the broadcast engineering industry and succeeding in launching many new careers.
Bob Hudelson is an Engineering Department Manager at AJA Video Systems, a manufacturer of innovative products for the broadcast, audio/video, production and post-production industries. Bob received his BSEE degree from the University of the Pacific in 1981. Bob began his career at Hewlett-Packard (HP), helping to launch HP’s first personal computer, the HP125. Bob’s career progressed into telecommunications and early voicemail systems. In 1988, Bob established his own company in Folsom, CA, developing products and providing consulting to several companies in the greater Sacramento area. In 1992 his company was contracted by the Grass Valley Group (GVG), which led him to eventually join GVG full-time in 1993. At GVG, he contributed to the Krystal DVE and M2100 Digital Master Control products. In 1997 Bob joined NVISION and began a 17-year journey, encompassing the industry transformation from analog to digital, and from standard definition (SD) to high definition (HD), which opened up many opportunities for new products. Bob transitioned to Miranda Technologies, as the Vice President of Engineering, when it acquired NVISION in 2008, and was promoted to the Vice President of the Router Business Unit in 2011. In 2014, Bob joined AJA Video Systems where he manages the Engineering team for Converter products. Bob has been a very active SMPTE supporter within the SMPTE Sacramento Section board for 19 years, serving 15 years as Chair or Past Chair. Bob also served two terms as a SMPTE Western Region Governor from 2009-2013.
