Carol Alynn Payne is an Imaging Specialist on the Creative Technologies & Infrastructure team at Netflix, where her team focuses on the standards of the future - where is imaging technology headed, and how can we best utilize it to ensure creative intent is preserved. After starting her visual effects career as a generalist artist, Carol spent six years at Industrial Light & Magic, a Lucasfilm Company. During her ILM tenure, she worked her way up through the ranks to become a Color & Imaging Engineer and discovered her passion for how we capture, create, digitally manipulate, and display imagery to make content shine. Her filmography includes The Irishman, A Quiet Place, Avengers: Infinity War, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and many more. Carol is an active participant in a number of open source communities including OpenColorIO and the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES), as well as an active SMPTE and ACM SIGGRAPH member. She is currently chairing the ACES Gamut Study working group, and she's a founding member of Women in Visual Effects, a video web series that aims to highlight some of the amazing women in the visual effects industry, with the goal of improving inclusion and diversity.
