Dan Grois received a PhD degree from the Communication Systems Engineering Department, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU), Be’er Sheva, Israel, in 2011, where he was a Senior Researcher until 2013. From mid-2013 until 2017, he was a Senior Researcher with the Video Coding and Analytics Department, Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications – Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI), Berlin, Germany. Since 2017, he is a Principal Researcher at Comcast, where he is mainly working on advanced perceptual video quality optimization techniques for HDR UHD video coding, including neural network-based optimizations. He was granted various fellowships, including the Kreitman Fellowships, ERCIM Alain Bensoussan Fellowship, and Marie Skodowska-Curie Fellowship. In addition, Dan actively participates in the video standardization activities of ISO/IEC and ITU-T organizations, such as JCT-VC and JVET, and he is an active contributor of the HEVC and VVC standards. He is an author/co-author of more than 90 publications in the area of image/video coding and data processing. Dan is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT) and of the IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine, and he is an “Industry and Standards” Department Editor of the IEEE Multimedia Magazine. In addition, Dan is a TPC co-chair of the ACM Mile-High Video conference, a Senior Member of the IEEE, and a Member of the ACM, SCTE, SMPTE, SPIE and many other organizations.
